Introduction : High Pressure Gas (HPG) hose is a type of PTFE lined, smoothbore hose which has been specially processed to ensure that the hose liner is suitable for use with gases at "high pressures" (above 140 bar, or 2000 psi).
Generally, PTFE hose is chemically suitable for use with all gases, but small molecule gases like hydrogen and helium will diffuse through the wall of PTFE hose in appreciable quantities, especially at higher pressures. Larger molecule gases like air, oxygen, nitrogen, CO2 etc. do not diffuse noticeably, but use at high pressures is not recommended, even with HPG hose.
Construction : HPG hose includes a smoothbore, heavy wall, specially processed, natural PTFE liner tube, with an external braid of grade 304 stainless steel wire. (Antistatic HPG hose is not available, due to the increased porosity generated by the addition of the carbon black).

*Other sizes of HPG hose can also be supplied to special order.
Limitations : In additional to the cautions given above for Hydrogen, Helium and the Halogens, it should also be noted that HPG hose is only suitable for use when the gases being passed are clean and dry, and single phase only (gaseous, without liquids or solids present). Twin or multi phase media are likely to develop dangerous electrostatic charges, and must be avoided.
- Also, any pressure cycling conditions can cause premature hose failure - consult Aflex Hose for advice.
