Introduction
In response to requests from Customers who self-assemble Aflex Hose products, Aflex have developed a basic
range of PTFE encapsulated end fittings.
These can be used in place of standard non-lined end fittings to provide a PTFE lined alternative, without the need
to assemble and flare an Integral PTFE Lined end fitting.
Encap fittings do not provide the same advantages as Integral Lined fittings, namely the full hose bore size
through the fitting, and no internal entrapment areas.
Encap fittings do, however, provide a fully PTFE lined fitting with a flared face which is easier to assemble. Also,
the Aflex Encap fitting design has a significantly larger bore than the conventional PFA encapsulated fittings
available from other suppliers.
Construction and Application
Encap Fittings are assembled and crimped using the same non-lined ferrules, crimp diameters and assembly
procedures that are used with standard non-lined fittings, on all the Aflex PTFE hose product range.
The PTFE encapsulation is either natural or antistatic PTFE as required, with a PTFE wall thickness of 1.5mm
(0.060") for sizes up to 1 1/2", and 1.8mm (0.070") for sizes 2" and above.
Important Note: The use of Encap fittings with hoses, ferrules or other components which are not all supplied
by Aflex Hose is strictly prohibited, and no liability will be accepted for any failures which result from such abuse.

These end fittings can be supplied to the Encap design, but only as "Specials"
(=Specially made to order, as Non-Stock Items) |
Other Fittings not listed here which are also available as "Specials" include all those non-lined end fittings listed
for any product in the Aflex Hose Product Literature.
* = These parallel male threaded end fittings can only be used where the connecting component forms a seal
against the PTFE sealing face. Connections to a BSP Taper Female Fitting, or a "Bonded Washer" type
connection are therefore not acceptable.
Other Dimensions
Other dimensions for Encap fittings are as listed for the Non-Lined Fittings in the relevant Full Product Brochure
on this website. The Encap Flange flare diameters are in accordance with Specification requirements.
Performance Testing
Rigorous test programs have been applied to ensure that the Encap Fitting Design perfoms satisfactorily.
These Tests include:
- Burst Pressure Testing (Before and after Heat Cycling)
- Helium Diffusion Pressure Testing (Before and after Heat Cycling)
- "Rolling U" Continuous Flex Testing
- Various other tests
In every test, the hose assemblies with Encap fittings performed as well as those with standard, non-lined fittings.
