RC - Rubber Covered

Purpose  - For the most rugged applications where the hose may be subject to rough treatment and severe external abrasion.  Road tanker hose is a typical application.

Design  - A normal SS braided hose assembly has a specially formulated external rubber cover vulcanised directly onto the braid, to give excellent resistance to external abrasion and damage.  The standard type of rubber is black anti static EPDM rubber which has excellent chemical and is temperature resistant up to 140°C (internal).  Other colours are possible but these will not be antistatic, other types of rubber which are also available include Silicone (RC,SI).

Specifications  - As for GP,SS except that the operating temperature range is reduced, the weight per metre is increased by 20% and the minimum bend radius is increased by 50%.

Maximum hose lengths: EPDM etc: up to 20 metres

Silicone Rubber

• < 3/4" up to 10 metres
• 3/4" to 3" up to 5 metres
• >3" up to 3 metres

FP - Fireproof Rubber Covered 

Purpose  - For the same application as normal rubber covered hose but where the hose is also required to be able to resist failure in the event of a fire, in accordance with specification BS5173 Section 103.13 part 6.3 (Fireproof)

Design  - As for RC hose, but the red EPDM rubber is specially compounded to be fire resistance.  FP grade is not antistatic but can be supplied antistatic (black) to special order

RC, SI - Silicone Rubber Covered

Purpose  - For use in hygienic applications where the external smoothness and cleanability of the hose is of prime importance and where the condition of the braid can be visually monitored.

Design  - A semi transparent silicone rubber sleeve is applied over the braid.

Limitations  - Not available for hose sizes above 3" (80mm).  Loose on the hose O/D, not tight like RC-Silicone.

RC-300 - Rubber Covered 300mm at End

Purpose  - In applications where excessive flexing of the hose at the end fittings occurs, it is sometimes necessary to 'stiffen the hose in this area, to prevent kinking.

Design  - A layer of rubber is applied and vulcanised directly to the ferrule and 300mm along the hose from the fitting.  This can be done either on an SS braided hose (RC-300) or on a rubber covered hose as a 300mm long double layer of rubber at the end (DRC-300).  The rubber used is normally Black EPDM but if the hose is FP or SI covered, then the same type and colour of rubber would be used (DFP-300 or (DSI-300).

Limitations  - Cannot be applied to PB or KYB braided hose.  If required consult Aflex Hose for an alternative "EPR" system (EPR includes a 300mm length of loose rubber hose jubilee clipped to the ferrule.

SG - Safegard Protection Sleeve

Purpose  - To protect the hose against external abrasion and mechanical damage. For use in application where maximum external protection is required with minimum extra hose weight. Particularly useful with PB or KYB hose, where a rubber cover is not an option.

Design  - A lightweight black, HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) strip spirally wound around the outside of the hose over its whole length, secured to each end fitting by crimping under a SS ferrule.

Limitations  - Safegard is applicable to all hose types, and all hose sizes from 1/2" up to 4".

Safegard is limited to use within a temperature range from -40°C (-40°F) up to +100°C (212°F). Internal fluid temperatures up to +120°C (250°F) are acceptable, when external temperatures are ambient.

Other hose usage limitation specifications are not altered by the addition of Safegard.

Note  - The Safegard system is designed to replace and improve upon the SR (Scuff Rings) and PC (Protection Coil) systems previously offered. PC will continue to be available, but to special order only).

SR - Scuff Rings

Purpose  - For medium/heavy duty applications where the hose requires some protection against abrasion when dragged over the ground, but where a full rubber cover would be too heavy and cumbersome.  Also for PB braided hose, which cannot be Rubber Covered.

Design  - Specially moulded abrasion resistant rubber scuff rings are placed every half metre long the hose.

Limitation  - Hose sizes 1" (25mm) to 3" (80mm) only.

Specifications  - As for GP,SS except that the internal operating temperature should not exceed 140°C.

PC - Protection Coil

Purpose  - For applications where the hose requires protection against abrasion when dragged over the ground, but where any rubber reinforcement is not permissible (due to temperature, chemicals etc.)

Design  A stainless steel wire helix is wound on to the braid and then welded to the ferrules at each end.

Specifications  - As for GP,SS except that the weight is increased by 15%.

CC - PTFE Colour Coded

Purpose  - A coloured PTFE spiral tube marker is wound onto the hose.  It is possible to do this with the hose already in application if required, and the marker may be removed with equal ease.  The advantages of PTFE coloured markers are that they have they have excellent chemical resistance, and the non stick PTFE surface ensures that the colour remains clean and bright.  If required, it can be secured in place on the hose by a transparent heart-shrink polyolefin sleeve, but the PO sleeve cannot be applied to hoses in application.
